Multi-talented Flavio brings a whole new mind-set to business solutions at Cofficient
Many companies want to hire the best talent from around the world but Glasgow-based Cofficient has gone one better – it is employing a nuclear physicist who used to hold a senior post in the Valentino fashion empire.
And to cap his talents, he is also a published dark fantasy author, with five novels and a range of short stories under his belt.
Flavio Glaser, 38, who is originally from Vicenza, near Venice in North-East Italy, is employed as a solutions consultant at the Hillington company, which has a team of seven and is heading for a £1 million turnover this year.
He now lives in the Falkirk area and has given Cofficient an industry-leading expertise in supply chain management, procurement and finding solutions for clients to the most complex logistical problems.
His background in nuclear and sub-nuclear physics, he said, gives him a particular aptitude for analysing problems and working out sophisticated algorithms to create a workable and sustainable solution.
Flavio joined Cofficient, which supplies cloud-based CRM and ERP business solutions using NetSuite and SAP’s Business by Design, two years ago. Before that, he spent 11 years in the worldwide fashion empire of Valentino Garavani.
He said: “When I left university after five years of my physics degree, I wanted to work as a researcher at CERN, the European particle accelerator, or some other science work in that kind of field. But posts are scarce.
“Valentino was looking for people with a maths or engineering background to focus on its global supply and procurement needs, which are very complicated and cover many disciplines.
“What my physics training had instilled in me was a capacity to learn quickly and to see into problems in an objective and analytical way. I started as a process analyst and left the company as a product manager.
“We worked in a team of 30 and we became the keepers of the knowledge. We were essentially internal consultants on whom management could rely to come up with answers about functionality and new processes.”
Flavio is fulfilling a similar role at Cofficient, working with clients to create the best business solutions for their companies.
Paul Tindal, director of Cofficient, said: “We offer an implementation service for the software, starting with business analysis, configuring the system, customising and then training and support. It’s a design, build, test and go-live, end to end journey. Flavio, with his analytical background, brings a whole new mind-set to the process.”
