Confessions of a SAP ByDesign Finance Expert

SAP ByDesign Finance Expert Paul Grant shares his top tips on making financial software “sing”

Cofficient have been partnering with SAP  Business ByDesign since 2008.  Paul Grant CA has been involved in every ByDesign implementation the company has secured ….. and many more above.  Here he shares his top 4 tips on why having financial expertise is imperative to the success of SAP ByDesign implementations.

Debits and Credits

It’s all about the debit and credits. Almost every transaction processed on an ERP solution has a financial impact.  A little like procrastinating on the things you don’t want to do, we see other consultants from IT practices shove the financial implications of a transaction into a “to-do” pile that ends up being a pile of “do-do” for the client post go –live.

Inspect what you Expect

Configuring a solution is fine, but the quality of what is undertaken can only be tested if you know what the correct outcome is. And, systems aren’t always right….as Lynne Fauls Woods use to say, “a potential death trap”, for the ignorant

Expect Financial Reporting Prowess

The pinnacle of any systems implementation is getting to those real time, insightful financial reports. Clients rarely have the vision of the finished article. There is an “artistry” in identifying and creating the possibilities.  It’s not just about simply slicing and dicing data – that’s easy. Structuring master data and understanding how transactions are tagged and booked is a critical step in achieving the right end result.  All of this only comes from solid financial experience.

Corporate Governance

Corporate governance – whats that then?  At Cofficient, we understand the difference between a business process and a business policy not to mention compliance, segregation of duties and exception management.  Systems play their part but it takes experience to enable it.
