BSB Structural

BSB Structural select Cofficient Ltd to implement NetSuite ERP.

Background

BSB Structural are a steel fabrication company that deal with the design, fabrication, erection and coatings of steel work. They provide steel and erect buildings such as schools, supermarkets, football stadiums and leisure facilities throughout the UK, acting as a complete one-stop-shop when it comes to structural engineering.

Problem

With over 70 members of staff and many blue-chip customers, their current software estate was not supporting business growth. This was due to a lack of integration between departments, which prevented the efficient flow of information throughout the business. This also created issues with reporting and financial visibility.

As a result, this was the top priority, as their existing software package created a disconnect between key departments. This was also due to the makeup of the outdated software infrastructure, which included a blend of Sage Line 50, Strumis, and manual spreadsheet records.

Solution

The management team at BSB Structural engaged with Scottish Enterprise to help guide them through the search and selection process, after which NetSuite was identified as their software of choice. NetSuite covered the requirements of all the various departments, while providing the benefit of one centralised system that users across departments could engage with. While they explored the option of using a bespoke steel fabrication software, they opted for NetSuite because it was the most comprehensive cloud-based ERP solution.

Cofficient was selected as implementation partner, primarily due to their extensive financial experience, which could be translated into the overall design of the system.

Results

The NetSuite implementation has led to a significant improvement in productivity and workflow efficiency. The benefits are primarily internal, as most operational elements are not customer facing. In fact, with nearly 90% of the work happening in the background, it helps to be able to manage payments, documents, and files quickly and efficiently. This also provides a real benefit when it comes to audits, as the data is available at the click of a button. It also increases visibility and management when it comes to suppliers, while offering a centralised location for invoices.

Other company wide benefits include:

  • Procurement and finance now communicate better.
  • Increased traceability from an audit perspective.
  • Increased visibility through reports and real-time, user-friendly dashboards.
  • Detailed insights into current transactional data.
  • Synchronization of tasks.
  • More top-level visibility into how the business is performing.
