NetSuite is the New Sage

NetSuite is the New Sage

When it comes to trends, it’s really all about cultures.  What’s hot and what’s not is very much dictated by the culture of the masses.  Technology isn’t that different from fashion when you think about it.   The big technology companies (like NetSuite) are at the very forefront of trending tech.  They analyse what the people want, then produce it.

In some ways you can think of Cloud Computing as being somewhat of a “movement”.  Informatica, and IDG Research recently conducted a survey which suggested that 63% of IT business leaders plan to investigate cloud this year.    Cloud has reached the tipping point.

For those already using cloud, it’s clear to see why software such as NetSuite is gaining so much traction in the market place by comparison to legacy on premise software like Sage.

  1. Forward thinking start-up companies won’t even consider on-premise.  NetSuite has all the same functionality as Sage (and then a little bit more).  Finance software is much of a muchness to be honest with you.  However, when you consider the benefits of real time analytics that you get from cloud based products like NetSuite, the fact that you can make the right decisions … on time, it really puts Sage on a back foot.
  2. Update your software wardrobe.    Imagine if you had to wear the same clothes year after year without any updates? Whilst your peers are rocking the Spring/Summer 2016 collection, you are stuck in Fall 1994.  When it comes to tech this is quite literally true for some businesses.  We have talked to companies who are  version locked into Sage 50 or Sage 100 (and being asked to pay a pretty penny for the updated version). NetSuite customers get to work off the latest version every day.  Cloud based software typically goes through two major updates a year – with small tweaks going on behind the scenes all the time.  You can stay “on-trend” all time.  Or to put it another way, neither you nor your software should become obsolete.
  3. It’s all about embellishments.  Sage finance is a good software, it does what it’s meant to do.  But for some people it’s become those comfy jeans you wear every day.  Breaking out your comfort zone to update your business can be difficult.  But what happens when your businesses needs something more than that?  Like CRM?  Or Inventory Management?  You will have to go back to market and find a different software (hopefully one which integrates with Sage) and do a full implementation.  Much better to just reach into your wardrobe of add-ons and apps and select what you need.  Cloud based software is great like that.  Whole communities of app developers exist just to create the embellishments you need for your business software.  Check out the Suite Apps store to see how you can extend and update your version of NetSuite.
